Go Bananas!

Hi all! I'm sorry I've been away for so long, but a lot of exciting things have been happening. I went to Disneyland, bought two new snakes, and I'm going to view another one tomorrow! And now we are officially in breeding season, the temps have been turned up and I'm getting ready to start pairing males to Mumma Fifi! Yay!

This blog post however is going to be about one of my new additions; my male Banana! Since I started the hobby I always knew that one day I'd have to own a Banana, and now I do! I'd never actually seen one in person before I got this one, and I only had pictures from the breeder that I bought him from. Side note: I'd always recommend viewing a snake before buying or paying any sort of deposit because pictures don't show true colours/size/health etc. It was only because the breeder I bought my Banana from is a friend and I trust him!

So anyway, having not seen a Banana Royal in person before I'd really underestimated how amazing he would look. As soon as I saw him, I shrieked with excitement! He is absolutely stunning, and these pictures really don't do him any justice. I was completely amazed by his colours and markings, and I love being able to look into his tub and see his beautiful face whenever I want! And he fed just four days after I got him, so I'm a happy Mummy!

You can probably guess that I haven't named him yet! I've come up with plenty of names but nothing that I think really suits him.. it's been difficult. I'm going along the Disney theme and was thinking either Buzz or Flounder, but I really don't know. So if anyone has any suggestions please comment below!

Let's build a rack!

So I finally did it! I've built my 10 tub rack and I'm going to show you how I did it! :)

Each tub is 32L and there are two on each shelf, with five shelves in total. I got the tubs from a shop called B&M home store ( 's the link http://www.bmstores.co.uk/search?q=32l ) and they are two for £6.00! I used white contiboard from B&Q which cost me around £45.00 in total ( here's the link http://search.diy.com/search?w=contiboard&x=0&y=0 ) and they cut the wood to size for me which was really handy. I managed to get some free hardboard from a friend to nail onto the back of the rack, and I used 30mm screws that I had in my shed to hold it all together. Here's how I did it:

First I needed to measure where each shelf would go so I had to basically put the rack together to measure it! I used 5mm thick table mats to give room at the top of the tub. Some people use CDs, but it's completely up to you and depends how much of a gap you want between the top of your tub and the shelf above. Once I had put the rack together I drew lines in pencil where the shelves would be on both of the 'sides' of the rack.

Once I knew where the shelves would be on the sides, I drilled pilot holes so I'd be able to screw the shelves in a lot easier. Then I had to put the rack together again, slowly building up and screwing the shelves in as I go.

And that was it! All I've got to do now is nail the hardboard onto the back of the rack, but I'm going to wait until I've got all the heat mats and wiring in place before I do that. It's so simple to do, and if I can build a rack then anyone can! Just make sure you measure accurately and take your time :)! Now comes the fun part... filling it with snakes!

If anyone has any questions or would like the measurements that I used, please leave a comment below.
